Great Wines of Basilicata
According to an ancient inscription, the first native vine-school was transplanted in Basilicata by the Greeks when they landed in Eraclea (the modern Policoro). More recently, the best wine production headed by Aglianico, derive from the luxurious blooming of vines planted on the hillside of the Apennine mountain facing the Adriatic sea, on the Southeastern side of the majestic volcanic Vulture massif. A lava based soil rich in minerals together with a continental climate characterized by cold winters, cool springs, and dry summers all offer the ideal conditions for the growth of grapes. |
